Xiaomi has launched Redmi Note 4 launched in India to continue its era of success in the country. Xiaomi has continued its policy to offer great specs for low prices and mainly to focus budget smartphone buyers.

Design: Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 hasn’t got any major upgrade over its predecessor. The design looks similar to Redmi Note 3 with few noticeable changes. The metal body design plays a key role in getting a sturdy design and great looks. This time, you get a 2.5D curved glass across the front panel which gives you a great premium feel. The capacitive navigation buttons placement below the display remained the same.
On the top, you get a 3.5mm audio out jack, IR blaster, and a secondary noise cancellation microphone. Volume rockers and the power button are on the right edge. On the left edge, you get a Hybrid SIM slot. Bottom edge remained same as of Note 3 with speaker and microphone vents on either side of microUSB port.
The rear panel is almost same to its predecessor with even more curves. The primary camera, dual tone LED flash, and the fingerprint scanner placement remained unchanged. On the whole, the design of the Redmi Note 4 is quite identical to Note 3 but has got better.
Display: Redmi Note 4 boasts a 5.5-inch full-HD IPS display with a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels. The 72.7 percent screen to body ratio is a bit disappointing but is totally acceptable considering the navigation buttons. The display density is about 401 ppi which result in the great display of the mobile. The 5.5-inch screen size is quite apt for watching videos and movies.
The full-HD resolution is razor sharp, and you can experience in texts and images which appear on the phone. Colors are punchier, viewing angles are decent, and readability in sunlight is great as well. Taking its price into account, High-resolution videos and other media playbacks are a visual feast. Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 display offers few options like Reading mode and adjusting color temperature. In fact, you don’t even miss a Super AMOLED panel which few companies offer for the same price.
Specifications: The version Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 launched in India doesn’t pack the same processor which it sells in China. The device is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 (MSM8953) processor clocked at 2GHz. The processor is coupled with Adreno 506 GPU for graphic support. Xiaomi has Redmi Note 4 was released in 3 variants in India and user can choose their best fit. The 2GB of RAM variant is with 32GB of storage, 3 gigs RAM variants come with 32GB storage, and top variant comes with 4GB of RAM with 64GB of storage.
Interestingly, the storage capacities now can be expanded up to 128GB which you don’t find in Redmi Note 3. The dual SIM device supports 4G networks on both the SIM cards. But, you need to compromise on one SIM card if you choose to extend storage by inserting microSD card.
The powerful processor performs the best of it no matter whatever you throw at it. You don’t complain about any issues regarding the Redmi Note 4 performance. However, it does have limitations considering its RAM capacities. Beware and choose the right variant which you can make the most out of it. The speaker at the bottom produces audible volume but not really loud. But the speaker positioning is again a bad placement for gamers as you close it with a finger while gaming.
Gaming is Redmi Note 4 is great without any lag or frame drop even while playing heavy graphic games. If you mind in benchmark scores, it scores 65,560 points in AnTuTu and 42,690 in Quadrant.
Software: Xioami Redmi Note 4 runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with MIUI 8 on top. Xiaomi now offers several new features which make most out of the Android Marshmallow. Redmi Note 4 gets you many other interesting software updates with the customized UI. Long press of home button launches Google’s Now on Tap within any app. The system animations and icons are way more furnished and look refreshing in Redmi Note 4.
Mi Cloud is another important factor which Xiaomi offers to its users. The new Gallery app automatically syncs all the stored photos to the cloud. Xiaomi provides 5GB of free cloud storage for each of its users on signing up for an account. The improved gallery app comes with sharing and video editing features. The quick ball feature on Redmi Note 4 lets users define up to five shortcuts for easy access.
Xiaomi also gets a caller ID feature to the Redmi Note 4 users with the MIUI 8. It does provide the one-handed mode by shrinking the display to one size and reducing the screen sizes. On the other hand, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 also offers plenty of pre-loaded apps which include Mi Picks, Mi Community, Music, Mi Remote, Mi Store, Weather, and a default browser. Sadly, you cannot remove any of the pre-loaded Xiaomi apps.
Camera: Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 offers a 13-megapixel rear camera on the rear which is far better than Redmi Note 3. The smartphone takes some decent photos in good lighting conditions. Color accuracy is great, and the focusing speeds are fast with the PDAF feature. Macro shots are decent, and you won’t complain even while clicking on moving subjects. Redmi Note 4 camera is also good in Low-light shots with good detail in pictures until you zoom in. Finally, Xioami efforts for improving camera quality has paid off, which the earlier Redmi Note 3 faced many complaints.
The camera app in Redmi Note 4 also offers several modes which include Panorama, Beautify and Manual. Applying filters to the photos is directly enabled from the camera app itself which is nice. The device can also record full-HD videos at 1080p resolution with excellent quality.
The front sensor on the device takes some impressive selfies with good colors and details. But, it cannot manage to perform well in low light conditions. Never the less, it is a decent camera which produces some good shots.
Battery: 4100mAh non-removable battery powers the entire unit of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4. The massive battery is a great combo for the specs which serves extra mile. The phone lasts up to two days on a moderate usage and, a day and a half on heavy usage. You also have battery saving modes which will be a savior in low battery times. Sadly, Redmi Note 4 doesn’t have any fast charge support and USB type-C. The device still continues the micro-USB port for charging.
